n the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as an additional airplane, on September 11th, 2001—there were a lot of attempts to deal with the issue. Many people were heartbroken, others were angry, but virtually everyone needed a way to deal with what is one of the worst tragedies to have ever befallen the United States of America.

After the September 11th attacks, there were a lot of ways to get involved and engaged in the memorializing of the event and the healing of a nation. Many projects that were started were never finished, because they simply ran out of steam, interest, and funding. These projects fell by the way side and in many cases—they were simply forgotten.

The 9/11 Memorial Quilt was a project conceived by Kevin Held, who had no prior experience in non-profits. It was one of those many projects that was never finished, due to a lack of interest from the public over time. It was to be a major project,so when public support waned, Kevin Held had no choice but to abandon the idea. His inexperience with non-profits certainly did not help him, but he did his best to accomplish his goal.
